If the story is true...it is interesting.

Hard to tell from the pictures........but does that frt sight look to you guys like the frt ears have been cut off?

good eyes, painter! it looks like the sight ears have been cut/ground down to the side-holes. the actual condition is kind of hard to make out, though.

As been said many times before, a person is buying the gun, not the story. Now if they still had the dated mailing box it would be pretty cool.

To be honest with you guys, this auction/shop is about a hour from me. The owner writes very vague details. I have friends that deal with him only because we can drive out and pick stuff up. Once my friend had won a 03A3 and he had gotten a call from them stating there was a fluke and the auction had ended a day early by accident and another time I wanted to drive out and see a gun that was on auction.(another M1A1). I called and the owner simply picked up the phone and screamed I am busy and and slammed it down before I got a word in.

Actually, I know the owner. Although his descriptions can be a bit vague, its because he doesn't know that much about a particular firearm. He used to run local auctions and I was a regular at them, but went to internet auctions for higher profits. And he's very fair for the folks he auctions stuff for. I gave a widow an estimate of what she should expect from her late husbands collection. He gave her a check for about $1000 more! and that was after his cut.
BTW, he and I spent several hours in line together talking the day we applied for our CCW permits. He's a businessman motivated by profit; yes, but he doesn't intentionally screw anyone. If he says a mistake was made, I'm inclined to believe him. And like the rest of us, he has bad days too.

Like I said I have friends that deal with him. He kinda turned me off with his phone personality.I would say the M1A1 I was looking at was on auction 18 months ago or so. It is a big country I'll find a M1A1 somewhere else.

I too, am local to this shop and I have bought and sold several guns through them. The owner likes all guns, but is really into weapons like high quality shotguns, Lugers, old Winchesters, Colt single actions, and other high class collectable guns. He used to be a rep for Beretta.

I must say they do get some amazing guns in his shop, I have bought (amongst other guns) a near mint Vz-52/57, a beautiful Springfield 1903, a Steyr Maadi, a Valmet M76, and a like new Husqvarna Crown Grade 30.06 hunting rifle there.

I know that during and immediately after an auction it is very hectic at their shop. He only has a couple of employees helping him photograph, list, and then pack guns for shipment after the auction. Sometimes his nerves get a bit frazzled, and he probably went of half cocked when the phone rang for the umpteenth time in ten minutes.

I'm not making excuses for the poor treatment someone received on the phone, but I have spoken with Scott on numerous occasions at his shop and he is normally a great guy. I'm sure he was having an off day.

Maybe it was run over by a tank before the guy picked it up. Something, for sure, looks funny about the sight.
