Do you mean a mark exactly like this and in this location?

These pics are from the 1944 Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle (Mfg by BSA Shirley - M47c) displayed in the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library .

If so, I believe it's an inspector's mark and I remember reading in Peter's book the actual name of the man, but it escape's me at the moment.

Perhaps Peter can chime in and confirm this.

    Regards,
    Badger

Yup…. great book and details are mentioned in this Knowledge Libraryicon entry.

    1941 No.32 Mk1 Sniper Scope (click here)

"Collectors Comments and Feedback" note #1 from that article above are re-posted here ….

    1. The lubricating grease originally used in the range and windage drums on these No.32 scopes often dries out and becomes very tight. DO NOT force them, as you can damage the internal components. If you need to get your No.32 scope repaired, I'd recommend sending it to the best, Mr. Peter Laidlericon in Englandicon. He's refurbished two of ~Angel~'s No.32 scopes, has access to any parts needed and does excellent work. His knowledge on the No.32 scope is second to none and he's authored two books on the subject.

To get a No.32 Mk1, Mk2, or Mk3 scope repaired by Peter Laidler, contact Brian Dickicon at BDL Ltd (click here), as they have exclusive North American rights to do all of Peter's work. If you're really interested in learning about the No.32 series of scopes, their history, evolution, repair and adjustments for shooting, I'd recommend Peter's two books below, which can also be ordered through BDL.

Good afternoon from bright and sunny Warminster. And just to make it better, we're out on the ranges with a couple of No4T's this very afternoon. One being a Canadianicon with a Mk4/No67 telescope too!

    Awesome ...

If I head for the airport now, I could be there in about 15 hours, including the time change ...

Take pics and post them here ..

Too late for today but will do it next week! I have to say, but I do like the little Lyman scope on the TP type rifle. I recognise that it failed on all counts but it's quite comfortable, good optically but difficult to zero in. Maybe I'm just not used to them

  10. Thank You to Peter Laidler For This Useful Post:

The stamp/mark is on the right side. I would love to get your book, but things being the way they are in this economy I can only ask questions and window shop. Thanks to all for their knowledge and sharing of information. ThomasR
