    got a RR, my 1st 1911

I've been looking to get my first 1911/A1 since the beginning of this year. I finally filled this gaping hole in my collection and picked up this Remington Rand yesterday at the Monroe, WA gun show. I got 2 General Shaver mags and a 1942 dated Sears holster with it, for $1300.

Any idea what month in 1943 this serial number would be? I know it was around the time of the reorganization at RR, but would be cool if I could narrow the time frame down.

As far as I can tell it looks righteous, but I'm not an expert. I guess the pics don't show too well but it's got the early checkered mainspring housing. Does this finish look like the dulite I keep hearing about?

I've studied coolgunsite, got Clawson's collector book and the photo CD, and followed the forums so I hope I didn't mess up on this. How'd I do?

Nice looking pistol, but that serial number looks kinda funny. Notice how much darker the numbers are than everything else? Odd.....

Looks like a very nice Type II Rem Rand. I think that $1300 was a very fair price especially since you got a holster with it too. I think that it looks like the original finish.

The comment about the serial number looking different than the rest of the lettering. The serial number was stamped after the pistol was sand blasted and finished. The other lettering was put on before.

That makes sense. I guess I've never seen one photographed from quite that angle and lighting.

I went back and in normal light the difference doesn't look quite so pronounced. I'm still trying to figure out the best ways to do the lighting so I can take pics without using a flash.

But I guess also on this one maybe the other lettering wasn't struck quite so deep, and the serial struck a little harder. That on top of it being after the finish was put on.

    Thanks for the responses.

I guess I just assumed that the s/n was rollmarked at the same time everything else was, but now that I think about it it makes sense that it would be applied later.
