Boyt Holster ID and Soldiers name

Picked up a 1911 Pistol rig today that is interesting and need some opinions. The Holster is a very nice tan with BOYT- JRJ instead of a date. Is this pre WW2. Also in very small neat letters on the flap is Vernon Boyle 2nd lt AG O- 802980. I would like to research the guy would the no. be a service no. or a ser no. for the weapon? Any Ideas? Thanks Truman

Possibly JRJ are pre-WWII inspector initials. Pictures would certainly help.

0-802980 is an officer's service number.Judging the color,
probably Korean War through early Vietnam. Bob

This Boyt is late WWI production i.e. 1918

Holsters were dyed black after WW2. By 1950 all were black. So it's before that.

The Air Force was the first to change to black leather around 1952, and the other services changed in 1956. During the Vietnam war tan WWII holsters were still being dyed black.

The holster dates to 1918, but the name and ID could be as late as Vietnam.
