It sold for that price because it was misrepresented and an uneducated individual with more money then sense paid that much for it without doing a check of its authenticity. This is why collecting has become such a pain in the pockets!

This same stock was discussed here and on another forum and it was determined to be an Overton replacement stock.

The buyer has three days to figure out it has been misrepresented (I'll use the kind word that Bill used ...."mispepresented")
I hope he is able to return it.

Dog, the reason I use that word is because the seller was contacted and was told it was not a Winchester stock and all the reasons were pointed out as to why is was not. The seller chose to continue to misrepresent it as something it is not. I am not the only one who contacted the seller with this information.

My bet would be the buyer will have a problem returning it IF he found it to be misrepresented. The key being "IF".

First off that is a stupid price for a stock.

But I can understand the seller, perhaps. He may actually think it is a Win stock. He gets an email from someone saying that it isn't. If I was him I'd immediately go defensive - not because I am trying to misrepresent - but because who knows who the person is on the other end of the email. It could be a buyer or the friend of a buyer trying to get the Win stock for a cheap price by saying it is fake.

The seller is selling the whole gun....not just the stock
After reading the seller's description and viewing the pictures, I fully believe the seller knows what he has...or in this case what he does not have. Keep in mind that ALL sellers of fake stuff think their stuff is real....just ask them!

Ah I didn't know it was an entire rifle. $3000 still sounds high to me.

Paul, the seller was not just told his stock was not a Winchester. He was told how and where to find the information to identify the stock on this rifle.
