The other day at the North Store I bought a field grade SA 1.5mil with a SA-52 barrel. Metal is all pretty nice, but the stock is really rough. New (and damned ugly) birch handguards, stock has several large and deep gauges, dried out walnut. I'm cleaning it up for now--it has an interesting RIA-EB rebuild mark and two deep P's, along with two brass pins added to reinforce the rear swivel, so it is interesting looking. The front ferrule, however, won't tighten. Is this a stripped screw, or the ferrule itself, which has been re-parked dark grey?

What would you guys do? Replace the ferrule, or just replace the whole stock? I bought the gun for a few of its parts--it had the HRA bolt and op-rod I needed to complete my 5.4 HRA--and because it has a WWII receiver, but with some many other changes is it worth changing the wood? Is there really even a correct version for this gun now?
