A while back someone was reconditioning Carbines and selling them in a crate with those accessories, plus a manual.

Can remember who it was, must be getting old.

I remembered seeing the boxes with manuals, etc, as well Jim, but I couldn't remember where either.

    BHP 'nailed' it.

The add is misleading, as are so many auctions these days.
The seller doesn't outright lie, but makes it sound like it is an original artifact -

Condition: Very good with oxidation on hinges and latches. Wood with a few chips and scratches. Handle ropes secure.

Changing subject a little, but -

I know there are many types of gun people, and to each his own, but the Miltech products interest me no more than a 'Mitchel's Mauser' does, if you're familiar with them.
At least Miltech is a little more honest about what they offer but do people actually pay these prices? (Miltech is also a little vague, but no outright lies)

They're asking $1550.00 for a put-together, refinished, aftermarket stocked 1903A3, but completely original 1903A3's in great condition can be found for half that price.

I guess $100 is cheap for a pinewood box with that must be worth $800 to some people!

The reason I suspected the box as Miltech, is because I own one. "Back in the day" I purchased a Garandicon from them for, IIRC, about 9 bills. From purchase to ship took about a year. Didn't know about DCM, CMPicon etc. Expensive, to say the least, for a put together (Springfield WWII receiver). But for accuracy, it's got it all over my CMP HRA with (probably) original barrel.

Take your lumps and move on and hope you learned something for your hard earned cash!

I have not seen one in person, but I think they are targeting a different type of customer than us on this board. Most of us seem to steer toward authentic, original, accept-a-little-rust weapons that have survived what the Govt put them through. I think the targeted customer are the "got to have the neat, cool, looks-great-toy-to-show-off-to-everyone" kinda of people. Remember, even those high-end fashion designers in New York sell camoflage style clothing - you just pay alot more for it and its not anything you would actually wear in the woods...

Yep, thats what I need, a fancy, bulky, stenciled pine box to keep my re-parkerized carbine in and I'll put it in the middle of my oversized den... maybe I'll lay it by the stuffed brown bear I shot on the overpriced guided hunt from three years ago... you know the spot - across the room from the hanging moose head and the 1863 field cannon... oh, my real safe? who needs that anymore... everyone knows guns are for show, not safekeeping....

(yep, its 7 am and I haven't had my coffee yet!)

A serial number on an issue shipping crate? Not in a million years. If any troopies ever saw a shipping crate, it would have been busted up and added to the firewood pile.
    Spelling and Grammar count!

A few years ago I made a couple of pine crates to hold a M1icon rifle. I made them as part of a presentation which included the rifles. I kind of made up the design on my own, but they turned out okay and seemed to be well received.

    - change it back -

Faulkner, I really like what you did. Throw in some silica packs and I think it will make an excellent storage for those without a large safe. I know some old vet's that would really appreciate it!

My issue with the one originally listed above was that it appeared to be passed off as an "original-this-is-how-it-was-shipped" crate and not as a presentation.
