    03 A4 Scope ring repair?

Here are a pictures of a rear scope ring for an Remington 03 A4. Just got the rifle and find this. Did not get to see if first. But the rest of gun is very nice, I will post pictures later (at least based on my knowledge it is nice). Scope is clear, rifle appears unfired since rework. Barrel is 8-43 and serial is 3424XXX.

Stock markings 2 P's, FJA or EJA in block then a large block RIA and below EB.

But the real issues is this rear lower scope ring. Truly ruined? Or is there anyway to rework? I can take my time and will keep looking for an original. The rings are black, the mount is plum with receiver. The mounts may be repo. The screw was good and hard! The ring was soft!

Any ideas appreciated? Serial number/Springfield name oriented for A4.

The rings are not original and look to be commercial 1". I don't think horizontal split replacements would be too hard to find.

What exactly went wrong with them? Is there damage from the windage screw? Or is it the ring screw?

I'd love to see some pics of the rifle! What kind of scope came with it?

This link will take you to a source for 7/8" horizonally split rings. Use the tab to the "Miscellaneous" page> I suspect they are reproductions but i don't know that for sure. They are the correct type for the M84 and can also be used for the M81/82.

The rings in your picture look like commercial high rings. military rings were "one size (height) fits all".

If the dovetails on the rear ring where the windage screws bear have been truly dmagaed i would tend to think a repair would not be economic.

    Regards,

    Jim

looks like someone used new style widage screws with that ring, they are a bit shorter, and the shoulder is a bit deaper.
that ring is trash...cost more to weld it and fix it then its worth.

    03-A4 ring

The scope was a M84 original and the rings are 7/8 ID. What height were original military? Base to CL or base to bottom radii? Definitely not 1".

Screws are fairly clean, just a little pucker at two points.

The rings are trashed. Is there a way for me to check them, some sort of standard to determine if original?

One item, they do not appear hardened, definitely not case hardened and soft enough to cut with a cheap pocket knife.

Also appear to be steel extruded, then machined. No chamfer, radii ID or OD of ring, slight chamfer on ring/scope screw bosses at ends only.

Just learning. Will have pictures of rifle soon.
