Colt Model 1911

[/IMG]I picked this up today at the flea market. It was made in 1919, SN#466147. The barrel is marked s p on lug. The mag and grips are commercial replacements. Curved MSH has 8 grooves. The slide stop, safety lever and trigger are all cross hatched. The trigger guard is stamped 47 and the frame has the eagle S17 stamp The pistol looks to have an older parked finish but there are no re-arsenal markings.

Your Colt 1911 was made in 1918 and sounds like it may be an arsenal rebuild even though it isn't marked (not all were marked) You have a WWII Springfield replacement barrel which likely happened when it was rebuilt. You have a late WWII RemRand 1911A1 main spring housing too. Your pistol should have what has come to be called a "Black Army" finish to be correct. It's hard to tell but it looks like you may have a narrow WWII hammer too.

I have been on the coolgunsite and wondered about the hammer..it is narrow with very fine cross hatching. I think the milling pattern on the safety lever is Colt, not sure about the slide stop lever. I had a hard time determining the date on one data list. I will be looking for some Keyes grips. I thought the Colt was worth $750. I see Colt 1911's in worse condition selling for a few hundred dollars more. I guess regional pricing can vary. This link show a very similar Colt. You also have a 1911A1 slide, which is probably not numbered. It appears to be 1944 slide from what I can see.

You can check behind the F.P. stop plate to see if the slide is numbered.

Thanks Scott..Will you be at the June Show? The grips are un marked walnut with a flat back. Perhaps this is one of the re-builds that did not get an arsenal stamp.
