Help with the Year of Production

    Hi to all,

a good friend purchased an excellent Argentino Mauser Modello 1909.
Is it possible for anyone to help me with the year of production for this rifle? The S.# is E4540.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Regards

    Gunner

    Gunner,
With an E4540 serial number it should be DWM manufacture. So I'm guessing 1910 maybe.
IIRC the Germanicon contract ran from 1909 to 1913. Argentineicon production was during the WW2 time frame.
I will check a couple of books when I get home this evening and get back to you.
As you know they are very nicely made rifles and good shooters.

Help with the year of production

    Gunner,
Got home a bit early and checked the books, Rifles of the world by John Walter, and Mauser Military Rifles by Ball. Not a lot of info on the Argentine
rifles. Contract dates for DWM shown as 1909-1913 or 1910-1912.
So my best guess is still 1910. Hope this helps.
Also look at the milsurp library on this site under South Americaicon for more info.

    Regards,
    Dennis

There was a little thing called World War 1 that put an end to Germanyicon's contract rifle production. The Argentineicon was ended by 1914. All of them were made in a 4 year span unlike the 1891 Argentine that spanned 1892 to 1902.

    E4540

    A3000 to K4999 were manufactured in 1910.

    Rifles - 160,000 total production from 1909 to 1912.
    Cavalry carbines - 19,072
    Engineer carbines - 10,000
