Remington Model 4 Rolling Block Rifle

My Grandfather was given a Model 4 Rolling Block rifle in 1911 when he was 13years old and from what I was told that little .22 cal laid many small game on the table for several years. Now, 99 years later it has given small game a break and is fired for pleasure at paper targets. The problem is that the most inexpensive ammo at that time was .22 shorts and over time the shorts have bulged the barrel so that when .22 LR is used the cartridges are hard to extract since the cases are bulged. I was wondering if relining the barrel is an option or should I just be content with ejecting the spent cartridges with my finger nail? Problem is I would hate to devaluate the value of the rifle and like to hand it down to my children when MY last round is over.
