Front Sight Mark

Ok, guys, help me out please.... I can not find a reference in the usually books for a Type II (stamped) front sight with a single sans serf P mark on top behind the sight post. Its on a IBM about 7,000 into production (Sept 43). Anyone know about it? WB states Type I was used on very few early with Type II used for most of production. However, I can not identify a "P" front sight for any prime manufacturers.

(No, don't have pictures of the carbine yet - the stock is still soaking up BLO icon

and the carbine is nekid.

Thanks, at least I know who made it. Is it likely a replacement part or did they supply to IBM early in their production.

I remember it was a WWII replacement part but thought it was made by Packard.

A Type II P marked frt sight is the first and only frt sight I've managed to ruin during removal....So far ;-(

Thanks for all the info guys! Not complaining, but I got three answers - at least I know its not too common. This is on the boltless I just got. Not really worried about it since the carbine is a mixmaster and past the point of rebuilding. Going to make a great shooter. Well worth the money - there is no way this was a rack grade. MW was a solid 2, original finish and zero rust. Thinking about ordering another one before they are gone. Have to finish the stock, post pics (I know, I know - but she's still nekid) and then go shoot it!

The front site post measures .310" - the exact same as two other front sights of carbines which shoot dead on at 100 yard. So I will just have to shoot this carbine to find out if this front sight needs replacement.

Any excuse to shoot a carbine is a good excuse.....
