    Question SVT-40 cartridge ejection problem

    Hi,
When I bought my SVT, I bought some Prvi Partizan 150gr ammo to go with it. It was fine, but then the store ran out of ammo, which was a sad day. But then recently another store got a bunch of Sellier & Bellot 180gr. ammo, which I bought. Now when I'm shooting it, it won't eject properly; either it falls back into the action sideways, or it just sits on top of the next round and gets slammed up against the chamber. The firing pin also likes to punch holes through the primer cap. And, (finally) the extractor used to heavily dent the casing on the Prvi, and with the S&B, it merely scratch it.

So, I think that I have so bit of adjusting to do on it (it can't just be the different cartridge, right?), but I've no idea what to adjust. Help?

You need a wrench to adjust to 1.5 and then it should be fine.By the way SB is 180 maybe a cause of your issue.

Aside from checking the firing pin tip for a proper rounded shape, sufficient protrusion, and debris in the f.p. channel (blanked primer cups?), you may check the bolt face to see that the firing pin hole isn't oversize or eroded. Once you start piercing or blanking primers, things will rapidly get worse due to high pressure flame cutting.

Otherwise, just turn the gas regulator nut in the gas block to the next bigger size (or two if one step-up doesn't work) and see if that doesn't restore function. Probably just a different burn rate powder in the new ammo.

Remember to loosen the gas spigot (inside the piston cup) before attempting to turn the adjusting nut!

P&S Guns and Militaria sells SVT-40 wrenches. I agree with Moltiv the SB 180s could be part of the issue. GRF
