The Winchester carbine is in the Whats New section, $3500. Says its a CMPicon auction carbine. Anyone else shocked by what the CMP gets on some of thier auctions? People pay stupid money for some of those guns and im not sure why.

The M1A1icon stock is clearly a reproduction, not a fake. A fake would have all the right markings and be aged back to look authentic. A repro stock is basically a toy for those who think the stock is cool but have no interest in paying $3000 for a worn out original.

I would think that, in any auction, the money paid is what the item is truly worth, exactly by definition. While I generally bid less, that just means that I'm out of step with reality and have to wait until next week.

Frank, there's many things to check out on these. I won't put them all here, but that circled P on the back of the stock is a good thing to look for. I think this one is O.K, David ??? If the guys can see a genuine circled P on an M1A1icon they should not be fooled by the rippers. I'm thinking this P is the only genuine aspect to this messed with and f ....d with weapon. A guy tried to sell it to me but I declined. Mike. Attachment 15587

Hi Mike, I'm not sure from your pic. Looks like the circled P is O.K. Mine is about the same size. Looks like the leather is right from what we can see. Has the wire been painted black? Is that a crack on the right rail? The wood looks to fresh, has it been sanded? I would like to see more if possible.
Did you see the CMPicon Winchester in the "whats new" section for $3,500. People pay alot for rifles that come straight from the government to them.....Frank

Bill: On the Winchester, do you mean the oil hole?

I have a 5.6 made in March 44 that has the oil hole (not a field mod). And there is a very close "Mirror image" carbine like mine (both have Underwood AU recoil plates too), so a very, very, very knowledgeable member offered that they may have started using the oil hole earlier than previously thought. Of course, like the sights, they used them as they got them, so it isn't seen on all production. In the end, a 5.5 may be too early but I just wanted to say that it (the oil hole Type A variation 4 Win) may not be as cut and dried as previously felt.

  13. Thank You to DaveHH For This Useful Post:
