X & U prefix 4(T)/ L24A1 scope numbers?
Hi all,
this is just a quick appeal/straw poll aimed at anyone who has a matched 4(T) or L42A1 set close to either of the following BSA numbers:
U 323xx
X 319xx
If you have a rifle somewhere close to one of the above - even if its just the prefix - I'd be very grateful if you could give me an indication of the matching Mk3/L1A1 scope number. I imagine both these rifles probably were originally fitted with Mk3s in the 25k range.
Long story, but I'm trying to identify whether a certain scope might have been paired with one of these two rifles. It would be great to at least narrow down the scope number to the last thousand or so.
P.s. if you have an L1A1 scope with a bracket marked to one of these rifles, I'd be very interested in talking to you....

I have the following:
https://www.milsurps.com/showthread....oore#post46538
X32xxx (L42a1)
I'll round up the scope number directly if that's close enough in S/N range.
I'm ashamed to admit I don't know if any other of my rifles fall near your numbers. Might be a little bit getting the #'s as the record book is at work and I won't be there for acouple of weeks. That means I'll have to do a physical check.

Thanks fellas.
It seems immediately apparent that there is in fact no close correlation between rifle number/date and scope number.
From my own collection of rifles, scopes, cans, butts:
Rifle - Scope - Maker - Source
V32758 - 25686 - TH&Co - numbers on an L1A1 scope tin (so rifle presumably is an L42)
T32052 - 22699 - AK&S - scope & numbered bracket (original pair?)
V36374 - 23102 - AK&S - scope, bracket & tin set
L30513 - 23888 - AK&S - scope & numbered bracket (original pair?)
AT4264 - 22127 - AK&S - L42A1 matched set (could be replacement scope, as butt is beech)
So, of the definitely originally matched items, it seems that there might be a varience of 5,000 scope numbers just for the "V" prefix rifles alone....

I didn't want to say anything before Thunderbox but after having seen one or two L42's in my time, there is no correlation between a rifle serial number originalty and telescope numbers.
When you asked the question, I wondered about the result. If you'd asked I could have brought up hundreds of cross referenced numbers but as I said, there's no identifiable correlation I'm afraid
