Belmont Ammunition is based in NZicon, the ammo (if original to the box) is tracer brought by the RNZAF & then later purchased by Belmont who pulled the 174g projectiles & replaced them with 150g projectiles, they did NOT change anything else.

btw & fwiw the ammo was done over 15 years ago

smellie, i would expect some damage to the fired case if the bolt failed, i would not expect it to look normal.

"So the 210 rounds the guy has fired since putting in another bolt have stretched or stressed the receiver walls enough to draw them back in around the charger bridge? Neat."

So your telling me that the clown who owns this rifle has re-bolted it and is still shooting it?

That's what I read. You can't keep a good man down.

Filthy rifle too, but he's got a trigger lock so safety first obviously!

“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

The 4th and 5th pics show the exact same failure as my SMLE suffered. I've had the rifle since 1996 and that little lug fell off on about the second time I cycled the bolt; I'd not even fired it at that time. I can't immagine how many rounds I've put through it since, but it's never been a problem.

And here's yet another link to a bolt with a broken cocking piece guide tab. Complete with a good failure analysis on Post #12:

No.1 MkIII Bolt Tab near cocking piece broke

    Thanks, RobsTV.

Here's a repeat of Photo # 1.3a showing the area in question:

Besides you, the current runner is on Shooting.com.au | Australia Firearm Community Forum, Collectors Corner, thread NOT GOOD, L.L.E bolt.
Gunboards forum, Lee Enfield Forum, thread I JUST BROKE MY BOLT, posted 31/5/12 page 2.
That should keep you going for awhile, along with the stickied page you've been referred to here.
    Have fun

I suppose this is the best place for these photos - has anyone ever come across Lee Metford or Long Lee forearms that where fitted with inlays along the barrel channel to reprofile them for the No 1 Mk I?

I came across this while cleaning a bubba'd forearm and hadn't remembered reading about this obviously arsenal-grade recycling trick.
