Agreed, I don't get that either.... Why not wipe it down a bit? But he did what he did, and that aspect of his ad is a mystery. I did find him very nice to deal with and easy to complete the transaction.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... I think the whole thing was suspicious before we realized Matty was legit. Anybody who dealt with STB had the bad karma associated with them.
Perry was lucky to take the risk, even without a return policy..if the seller offered that, there would be more bids, plus, the seller may have been leary to remove the rust, and he didnt want to show it..Perry like myself, likes early carbines, but he likes minty WRA's, carbines and WIN13's too! :-)

Here's the images of the slings for my 42 Inlands. The one on the left with the round buckle is from my 12/42. The one on the right is from the 8/42. The "2" is hard to see in the example on the right, but from every angle, it does appear to be a "2" in the date 1942. The right base lower right of that character (lower right of 2) is there. I know it's hard to see... Note the print font size varies between the two slings. But I suppose that's to be expected from production date to production date. And I suppose that ultimately, a definitive conclusion cannot be drawn from the one on the right. Of the 4 possible WW2 numbers, and having the lower right leg of the 2 still present, I figured it was a "2" as opposed to the other characters possible.
