Source of repro No.32 scopes - outside of US

Are there sources of repro No.32 scope outside of the US? There seems to be some problem with exporting scopes.

I know of a French source, but they seem quite expensive. 995 Euro, mon dieu!

Scopes can be exported from the USA but we have to get either State Department licensing or Dept. of Commerce licensing depending on what type of scope. Some modern tactical scopes won't be approved unless going to documented police or military end users.

At that amount buying a real one and having it reconditioned us certainly an option. What I find funny is most scopes are not made in the states so exactly what good does this restriction do ?

The USA is being governed by the most anti business administration in the history of this country. Everyone I know in almost every type of business is now working twice as hard for half as much. The powers that be really don't care what the effect of these restrictions is on business large or small and I doubt seriously that they do anything to keep telescopes out of the hands of bad people.

Considering China is still a communist dictatorship and they make just about everything from rip off computers to mil quality opticals ... restricting a scope from being exported from the states is so pointless it beggars belief.
I am lettingit go there as I don;t want to get into a political discussion but if it weren't so serious it would be funny.

I will add that many countries of the so called free western world now require export licenses for permanent export of optics. This includes the UK and others.

Hmmm. If only these things would hit the semi-clandestine world of ebay! They would go like the proverbial clappers through the post, no questions asked. I'm also having difficulty sourcing a ZF-41 repro (dare I mention these in this forum?! )

At risk of this becoming a political discussion (not my intention), China is NOT a 'communist dictatorship' - it is a authoritarian single party autocracy - there's a difference - and that party is the Communist Party. That Communist Party has bugger all to do with communism as an economic ideology - they are biggest bunch of laissez faire capitalist around!

Now, if only I could get someone in China to turn out repro No.32 scopes for me, I could flog them off all over the world on epay!

You can go on the U.S. Dept. of Commerce website and see the actual cases that have been prosecuted here in the USA regarding telescope exports. Thompson Center Arms, (owned by Smith & Wesson), got whacked for shipping 144 commercial scopes to Europe at a million dollars per violation a few years ago. I think they managed to plead it down to about 2.5 million in court. My point is: you can see why most companies here just won't consider it anymore. I can offer the export services but I charge accordingly for the services. As far as individuals posting these items around the world. I suppose it's like everything else, just fine as long as you don't get caught. My opinion here has always been that it only takes one a--hole to ruin your day so... 'nuff said.

Don't forget that there are question marks over the quality of the repros in terms of actual shooting (as opposed to just sitting on top of guns). The comments in the thread below refer to the ones on sale in the US. I don't know if people have worked out if the source is common to all, or the Euro ones are of different manufacture.
