Bulldog,
This is what I see from your pictures.
Someone sanded that stock within an inch of it's life.
1)You can see the sides of the magazine box under the floor plate.
2)The grasping grooves and cutoff recesses are rounded off.
3)The butt plate edges are standing proud of the butt stock.
4)The rear stock bolt is flush with the stock.
5)Cartouches, if any, have been sanded off.
I don't think Marines were issued M1903 Mk1's
A lot more detail pictures of the metal parts, including any markings will be needed.
As of value and history you will have to wait for the experts.
How much are they asking for it?

Stock is not a Mk1 stock, and sanded to death. Home made parkerizing job? I think I would pass on this one. Not USMC. Price, please.

700. I knew it had to be sanded, the stock just makes me sick. Also were they parkerized and all? I dont have anymore pictures yet.
I wonder how he would think this was a USMC rifle.

I'd have to take a close look at that rifle. From the photos, the cut-off are looks a little boogered.
If the cut-off area is OK, and the bore is as good as you say it is, I wouldn't pay more than $350. That stock is an eyesore, to me, anyway. Hardly worth $50. A nice, unsanded, finger-groove stock is hard to find. The stock greatly effects value.
There is nothing rare about a Mark I. Don't get burned.

As best as I can see around the cut-off, pass. Most probably a Drill rifle. NOT SURE, mind you. But this is my best guess.

Agree with the others; pass on that one. Too many good ones out there to spend your money there.

Bulldog- Can you spot a Drill rifle if you see one? You may get burned, move slowly. Good luck.

I think so, whats some of the red flags thats its a drill? The welds?
Im going to pass on this one and go look for a WW1 1903. , Jay
