    German-sports-gun-gsg-1911-22lr-pistol

Has anyone shot one of these pistols?

I saw it today at my local guy (California no less, cost $350.00). It has the 1911 feel weight wise and features. It seemed to me to be a good training tool for a new shooter before he moves up to 45 ACP. So I bought one.

We have lots of them up here and they're about twice that price. Lot's have sold with mixed reviews. I think they worked well enough though. Personally, I liked the Colt Ace but my two didn't work all that well.

I have purchased three in the past year. One for myself and one for my each of my sons.
The early ones have a "pot metal" barrel bushing, use a magnet to check. If you have such contact American Tactical and they will send you a FREE replacement.

Shooting wise we have had excellent results, these things eat anything we have run thru them. As for accuracy my oldest can split playing cards at about 30 feet on a fairly regular basis.

For the money I feel they are a Good Value .

    John,

Have you had any operation issues? I had heard the slide was hanging up on some of them. And to watch out for an extra spring when you take it down.

I have not had any problems.. But I have only used High Velocity ammo. The manual says you can use Standard Velocity but I have not tried any. That may be where some are experiencing problems.

As far as extra spring.. I have not seem any in just a regular field stripping. It does have a hollow hex or allen screw on the right side you need to remove before disassembly. Other than that it is like a 1911.

We have a waiting period here, so I won't be able to take it apart for another week.

This is what someone wrote about them.

Be careful disassembling this pistol - even if you're familiar with 1911 pistols, because it has 2 surprise parts that will fly out. One is an "extra" spring in the "side" of the hammer spring housing. (I sure didn't expect to see that!) The other surprise is your plunger spring will launch the thumb safety detent, because the detent isn't grooved to attach the plunger spring (like on most 1911s).

Remove the magazine ...... grab the pistol grips (from the front), and pull the slide to the rear. See if your slide binds at the rear. (Mine did.) If so, the slide is pinching the hammer against the beavertail safety. I just removed a few thousandths from the top surface of the hammer, and it's now good to go. Doing a trigger job is almost exactly like doing an 80 Series Colt.

Go to the Germanicon website and download a manual and parts list. They are avail in English.

German Sport Guns GmbH - GSG-1911

This may help while you are waiting.

I take it that long rod at the rear is to balance against your cheekbone for firing. That would help...
