    Exclamation Springfield M1A

Took my Springfield M1Aicon to the range last week. After about 20 rounds, the gun blew apart. The trigger assembly dropped out and the upper front guard flew back and hit me in the head. After inspection, we found that the hammer had broken and apparently let the rifle slam-fire. I posted a pic of the broken hammer, the new hammer and the casing. No apparent other damage.Attachment 25858

Cast hammer. Springfield let me down on this one. Replaced with mil-spec hammer.

Also have seen a broken sear pin on the trigger (aftermarket) result in an out of battery firing of the cartridge in an M1Aicon. Chip of out the bolt, bent op rod and another chip out of the receiver by the right lug recess

If you're OK, you can always fix the rifle.
