    Potuguese Mauser?

I have a few questions about a potuguese mauser I have. All the other ones I have seen have the 6.5 X'ed out. Mine does not but it does have 8mm german stamped with import marks. Will a 8mm cartrage fit in a 6.5 chamber? Or did it get mixed in during importation. And some kind of value would be nice also. Any info would be great as I'm not all that familiar with these rifles. Thanks

That's going to be the earlier contract, 1904 I think. I really don't know a lot about them, but there is a wiki page on them; see if it matches yours.

The Portugese Army re-barreled most of the 6.5mm into 8mm in the late 1930's. Not a common rifle, they fit well into a Mauser colection.

I have one in my collection of the converted Model 1904s in 6.5 X 58Pmm, to Model 937/m39 in 7.92 X 57mm they are well made.
My gun has excellent wood but the metal has been painted similar to the finish used by the Britishicon on refurbished Lee-Enfields.
