12/43 Remington Struts it Stuff at the Range

Finally got to the range to heat up my 12/43 Remington 03A3. Been working up some CB loads for as-issued military matches this Spring. Cast up some WW lead bullets with a cheap Lee mold sized .309 and loaded up mixed cases with 2400. Found the " sweet spot" with 17.5 to 18 gr of 2400 with 5-shot groups at 100 yards of 0.965 and 1.185; now it is time to fiddle with case brands and maybe a Lyman 311299 or 314299. These old rifles can shoot!

It never ceases to amaze me how these rifles - made at the rate of 1000's per day with relaxed wartime tolerances and with no thought of MOA accuracy - can shoot so well. It amuses me greatly to see these rifles shoot groups such a tad larger that the scope sighted, pillar bedded, synthetic stocked masterpieces we have today! Nice shooting!

Finn, I noticed that you were using 2400 as the powder. Where did you get the loading data? Its not in any of the books I am currently using.

Edit - I found it on some Alliant sources. Thanks anyway.

16 gr of 2400 behind a 160-180 bullet is sort of the universal starter load for most.
