The 'book that the main man wrote' states :
    No4T's :
    23,177 converted by H&H
    1,403 converted by Efd
    1,141 converted by Longbranch

    Total 25,721

Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. yeah, see what I mean.... compared to the Lithgowicon rifles they are pretty common. Tripping over them on the ground so to speak....

The Long Branch totals are misinterpreted, the correct total should be @1588 according to Law's research.

    I'm working toward 0.31%...

Ah......... but how is this total made up Lee Enfield. Are we talking about No4T's 'as defined' or No4 rifles fitted with telescopes. Not the same thing.

    Tssk, tssk,
It appears that the Canadianicon Army and SAL Long Branch (the manufacturer) considered the No4MkI*(T) equipped with the No32MkI(TP) to be a sniping rifle when they were manufactured. Who are we to disagree based on a subsequent re-evaluation by an interested 3rd party which was not an actual user? ;-)

The 1141 number is from the Dec 31, 1945 production returns. It is also skewed by the change in ownership of the Long Branch factory on Dec 31, 1945, from the Crown Corporation "Small Arms Limited" to the Jan 1, 1946 Crown Corporation "Canadian Arsenals Limited"...

Exactly the point I make Lee Enfield.............. And don't mince words here, exactly who might this interested 3rd party who wasn't an actual user be? And might I ask, what figure does your book give?

  10. Thank You to Peter Laidler For This Useful Post:
