    U.S. to import 86k M1 Rifles

This is the latest news I've read about the S. Korean rifles the State Dept and Obama's administration blocked a couple years ago. Unfortunately there didn't appear to be any good word on the 770k Carbines.

I loved this comment about the carbines, had to bring a smile at how little these morons in Washington know. They remind me of that quote to the affect that you can be quiet and keep them guessing, or open your mouth and remove all doubt (that you are an idiot that is).

"They currently sell for around $220, according to another defense ministry official. "

US allows import of 86,000 M1 rifles from Korea

Does anyone know who is going to be bringing them in?
I know it is not CMPicon.

No it's not CMPicon, I've ready where Orest was asked about it and he said it wasn't them.

I for one am hoping against hope we'll get that 770k carbines home and that they'll sell more cheaply than they go for on gunbroker and gunshows. I'd love an Inland because my grandma worked for Inland Div for 33 years, started there in '46 or '47. No she didn't work on carbines but it'd still be great to have. I have a NPM now.

Praying that Obama gets ousted in Nov and a decent constitutionalist gets in and allows the importation of the carbines. I think we'll end up getting the M1icon rifles no problem now.

Let's avoid the political content per forum rules.

Do you think we will see any of these in Canadaicon?

M1icon Carbines fall into two categories of banned firearms according to the following website.

BSF5044 - Importing a Firearm or Weapon Into Canada

    1) Semi-Auto center fire rifle with magazine capacity greater than 5 rounds (Carbine came with 15 and 30 round mags)

    2) Semi-Auto center fire rifle with barrel under 18.5" (Carbine has 18" barrel)

You can get other magazine capacities (I found 5 rounders on Sportsmans Guide), but no way to get around the barrel length restriction.

And sorry to all for the political comment, forgot that rule. I was very irate about these collector firearms being forbidden to enter this country, as I'm sure most here were.

I don't know if we'll get any of the M1s. I suspect the US market will absorb them eaily.

I am hoping we get a few containers of the carbines first!

Actually the magazines can still be imported if "permanently modified" (ie pinned) to hold no more than 5 rounds and semiautomatic centerfires with barrels of less than 470mm can also be imported as "restricted" firearms (same category as handguns basically).

No problem. It is rather aggravating, and especially because this is basically repatriation.
