I saw this rifle at a gun show last weekend, and even though I knew very little about it, I thought I would take a chance and purchased it for a restoration project. As you can see from the pics, it has been sporterized. How difficult is it to find the parts I will need for this project? The only reason I took this on is that while I was looking at it, the seller told me to make an offer, I had no idea what they are going for in this condition, so I threw out $90.00 and he accepted. Not sure how I did, but at the time it sounded like a fun project.

Nice buy, you will need a full wood set, that will be a bit difficult as time has caught up with most of these.
Some of the others may be able to point you in the right direction, but I feel this is going to be a long expensive journey, good luck.

Friend, you will need 3 pieces of wood: Butt, Forestock and Handguard.

You will need a Magazine Cutoff and its Screw.

You will need the Rear Volley Sight, its Spring and Screws.

You will need a Forward Volley Sight Assembly.

You will need the correct Middle Band with Swivel and you will need a Nose Cap/Forward Band.

Sounds like a lot, but quite a few of these parts are available from Springfield Sporters at reasonable prices. Cutoff and Screw together were something like $10 the last time I looked (last year... because they don't ship to Canada any longer, even when we send money). Some of the parts you need actually fit several models of rifle, which can make things easier.

Put a Want To Buy ad on here and see what pops up. It is quite amazing how helpful people can become, even in these times.

These are a fine old rifle and, in decent original trim, currently are selling in this country for 8 or 10 times what you paid. I think that is a silly price, but people seem to be paying it.
