Hey Jim Ole buddy! *LOL* Nope, I don't need one. I've got a few spares hangin' around here myself.

    jimb16,

When I drove back last May to the show at Roberts Center in your area I joined the OGCA. I liked the displays guys put on. Wish I could make the May show this year. Also found a nice place to eat in town. Ohio was pretty in May, don't know about the hot in August.

Seems to me, in my muddled memory, that one of our members with a home machine shop was considering making replacement pawls. Anyone remember what happened to that project?

That's sound advice about getting a bolt tool before attempting to disassemble the bolt, Jim.

I read you could do it without the bolt tool, as if the tool was a luxury, so I tried to clean out old crud from a bolt, but like to have never got it back together again. As inexpensive as bolt tools are, they're a must have if you need to work on your bolt.

Harlan, I HAD a technique that involved a miniature screw driver, 3" C-clamp and a (hold on - wait for it) popcycle stick which worked 100% of the time. But I am sure glad I got a bolt tool! The pawl on my first tool (USGI) is starting to wear out so I purchased two more complete tools to have for the future....

But that is before I found out that my good ole' buddy Jim has 20 sitting around in their original grease....

Seriously - Got a carbine? Get a tool!!!

I was thinking about getting one of the $12 pawls from eBay, but they aren't the "real deal" like Jim's. They might work and they might not - decided to get a spare G.I. tool instead. My original tool is a DPMS "commercial" and so far I haven't broken it. Some bolts are easy, and some are hard - it must be differences in tolerances. - Bob

Great stuff and pics Jim. I've got two tools, both with broken pawls. Only used the tools to find out what was written on the pin and extractor for the Club and broke both pawls after much use. My fault tho. As they say, with Carbines, one never stops learning. Thanks for the time and effort taken in posting the pics and text Jim, a great effort. Mike.

I just missed getting to meet you, Paul said you'd been there not 15 minutes before my wife and I came along. Sorry we missed meeting up. I joined the OGCA that day too, I hate that you're not going to be able to make it back this year. I hate it even more that Paul isn't coming up to display this year, he's got carbines that make a "budget" collector like me drool.

Being retired now, I will be able to make trips to shows with Carbine displays, or other things of interest. I'd like to see another Carbine exhibit and judging like they had in Alabama a few years ago. That would really make a nice trip. Don't know if that will ever happen again.

Don't know if I can make the May show yet. I've got a new short term job and don't know what the schedule will be until a couple of weeks before the show. I may have to work.
