Dates missing is what I recall now. Like on the late 5 mil Inlands with the I-BR stamp.
Wonder if this particular barrel stamped 8, may be a reversed 3 or possible worn stamp like posted about above?
Remember seeing a few in the serial range above where both the bottom and top of the barrel had the Inland Div stamp on them.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. The guy was supposed to either bring the Inland with the '48 marked barrel to a local gun shop, and/or give me a call. I stopped by the gun shop this afternoon, and he hadn't heard from the guy yet, and neither have I. While I was at the shop, I picked up a couple of Type 1, 15 round mags to add to my collection - an IA and SY-B. The Inland mag is a little odd because the exposed portion of the follower (at the front) has a horizontal gap in it. I remember reading somewhere about an improvement that was made to the followers in early production, but did a little bit of research tonight, and couldn't find it. It seems like it was in WarBaby! - somewhere?? I'll let you guys know if I get to see that barrel, but I'm thinking it has to be a '43 that was stamped lightly, or with a worn die. - Bob
