Well, to explain the camo'd M44............

I was given an M38 with a bubba'd stock. It had a piece of wood added to the top of the butt to give it a more "straight-line" style and a recoil pad added. Stock fubar, metal good.

I bought a $75 Polish M44 for the stock and put the M38 in it.

So there I was with cans of BBQ paint and Krylon OD and a ruined stock, so I "improved" it. The RDS is just sitting on top of the rear sight.

No actual milsurp part was reduced in value by me. Too bad I can find the pic of it with the 6 volt flashlight duct taped to the forearm.

Nope, the woods ruined. The top of the butt was reshaped and an extra piece screwed and glued on. Then it looks like the guy used a handsaw to square off the butt before adding the recoil pad. Handguard's split too.

That's why I painted it. No loss at all. I'd never mangle anything in original condition.
