    Ex Atlanta PD Colt SP1.

This is an ex Atlanta PD Colt SP1 I picked up today. According to the serial number databases I've checked, it was manufactured in 1973. Thought you guys might like to see it. Enjoy!

I had an early test rifle like that once. It had the number scratched in the flat side of the lower. No other numbers on it. Nice piece.

Test piece, you say? Is that to say that this was a rifle possibly trialled by this department?

No, by the military. It had all the early markings and brown fibrite front and pistol grip painted green then black. Scratched in the side was a name, Syracuse NY, test#002.

I'm sorry! I misunderstood. Thought you were talking about this one. (long day) Thats really interesting. Bet you wish you still had that one!

When I got this one home, I half expected it to be pretty worn out. Not the case at all. Aside from typical storage scuffs, it's like new on the inside.

Looks like a gun the APD confiscated at one time.

That's the way some departments got their "special" weapons at one time. That's why there was such a mish mash up until a few years ago. And yes, I wish I had the early one again. At least I know where it went.

thats a good looking rifle. one of the local sheriffs departments still gets some of its rifles that way. I've helped do the work on a dew of them and I've seen lots of SP1s.
