    Description for Item # 292268214

Up for auction is an original T3 manufactured by Inland. This is a very rare experimental rifle. They only manufactured around 1200 of these and 99% of them were destroyed by the US government. This is only the second one that I have seen as they are not around very often. This ones serial number is 106. They were given their own serial number since they were not standard production. It has the correct flat bottom style stock. It has a crack at the front of the magazine well as well as one by the recoil plate. It has a few other dings and scratches throughout as seen in photos. It appears to have all original Inland parts. The barrel is manufactured by Inland and is marked 2-44. The crown shows a little damage and should be looked at by a gunsmith before firing. The front sight pin is also missing. It has a bayonet style front barrel band. The bore is bright and shiny. The receiver is properly marked T3 and has the bolt and screw. These are braised onto the receiver at the factory and has rub marks where the braising can be seen. The trigger housing all of the components appear original to this rifle. I do not believe these have been through rebuilds. Charging handle and bolt are also Inland. The hand guard is an early Inland hand guard but does not match the rest of the stock. Overall the metal on all of the parts is pretty good. It does function well. This would make a very good gun for any carbine, night vision, or experimental collection. Regretfully, we do not have a scope to sell with it.

Now that is something you don't see very often. I have only seen pictures, never held one.

Shown in "War Baby" pages 232-236 both the Inland and Winchester designs.

"War Baby" was published in 1992. But it mentions the earliest dated Inland T3 barrel known at the time was 3-44. I see this one is 2-44.

Wonder what it will cost to own this piece? We'll know in six days.

For a carbine made early in 1944 the barrel band would not be correct. The muzzle looks like it was recrowned but not a very good job of it. And as Jim said the barrel is a month too early. What is with the recoil plate as it looks to be too small for the wood. I would think a lot more information is needed on this one before sheeling out a lot of money for it.

The stock is a replacement - no holes for clamps and wiring. It never held the electronics of the M1icon model. Not impossible for the barrel to be original as it's only a month early, but with almost everything else being wrong for the date of manufacture, it too could easily be a replacement. The seller makes a couple of small boo boos: 1) the T3 was not experimental; it was adopted for limited procurement and used on the Sniperscope, M1. Was a TM ever published for any experimental device? 2) the number produced was more than the 1200 he claims - even if he is talking only about Inland. My guess is over 1500, but not close to 1600 (not counting the 1108 Winnies).

No guarantee they went out in numerical order, but 125 Sniperscopes went to the field for testing in September 1944. The second Inland batch (with the '00' serial number prefix) was accepted sometime between January 1 and June 30, 1945, so it's a guess - but maybe not a bad one - that this 0106 was used on Okinawa.

A .U. Frt sight and missing pin.
Mag catch has the thick rail like the Type IIA.

    Questions,
Would the T3's have had the extra drain/lube hole drilled in the trigger housing?
Can anyone make out the marking on the Bayo band?

IMO, That muzzle would worry me.

I did have a stock not so long ago . It went for a grand in money and parts trade . It was a spare un-issued stock . This stock has severe damage to the nose , magwell and recoil plate areas . I find this strange because this stock is much beefier than a normal stock . Also , this stock is incomplete in it's machining. It would not have left the factory on a rifle in this condition ( of machining ) . It also appears to not have the three holes cut on the left side for the cable clamps which would have been done on a new spare .
