value ? rcmp longbranch N04 MK1* altered for scope.

    i have a near perfect 1945 rcmp issued longbranch N04 MK1*.
my problem is my 73 year-old eyes. would the future value be adversely affected if i had
it drilled and tapped to mount a scope?

value ? rcmp longbranch N04 MK1* altered for scope.

It would destroy the value. If you want to scope use a no gunsmithing bracket. There are a number of them. I think the Fulton ones may be the best but not the cheapest.

This has to be someone pulling a leg. There are already far too bloody many sporterized Long Branch Lee Enfields, and the thought of drilling and tapping yet another nice one and trashing its value is frankly . If it's a properly marked "MP" RCMP one, then that's a double no-no. If it is truly original issue in really nice shape and RCMP marked, you will take a $700-ish rifle and make it worth the wood and furniture--maybe $250. Please Please Please leave it as it is, go buy one which is already cut down or whatever, and mount a scope on it. Or, buy a standard Brit or one of the Greek issue full wood Long Branches that are rather "well used" and mount a scope on that.

On the other hand, from a purely selfish point of view, it will make my RCMP marked Long Branches worth more, as there would be one less collectible one on the market.

Take those words of advice on board mechanic. The scope mounts GSimmons speaks of are available, by return post, from Brian at BDLicon Ltd in SC

My blood pressure has returned to normal. Sorry for the rant. I was just at the Vernon Gun show, admiring an original, matching (all matching, every part) Portuguese Vergueiro with a beautiful bore, which someone unfortunately had decided to "pretty up"; the stock had been sanded and varnished with that dazzling "see your face in it' stuff. The wood had been sanded so much the buttplate was proud by about 1.5mm. It's only the second one of that model I've ever seen which is completely matching, so it was a little sad........ Enjoy your rifle, with the no-drill mount.

    Cheers

    Ed
