XM607 stock

This stock came out of a salvage yard some years ago and was incomplete as some internal parts were missing. I was able to find some repro internal parts from a company that was making repro XM607 stocks. The original XM607 has the shinny black color while the repros are dull or flat black.

This stock is on a Colt SP1 lower from the 70's

Very sweet. I would love to build a 607, but can't SBR it in Kalifornia. (Also can't afford it!!!)

RCS.......what a find! I need to say that your 607 stock is what led me to this site. I have been researching 607's in my attempt to build a suitable retro carbine. During that search for info I came upon a link to a thread that you had about your stock from sometime in 2011. Could I possibly get you to take a few more photos of your stock and pos them here, or send them to my email addy if that suits you better? What I need is a pic showing it straight on......from the rear......to show details on "one plane". It would be even better if you had a ruler to lay on the same plane so that I could get "scale" I'm trying to duplicate the hardware that goes on the stock, as I am a machinist, and you are the only person I know that has an original in their possesion. Also, could you give us some of the dimensions of the buttplate? Thickness, the angle of the cut....which I have read is 5 degrees, but yours looks like more than that. Any and all info that you can offer would be greatly appreciated. (hope I'm not imposing too much)

That original 607 stock is an incredible find! I enjoy shooting my 607, it's very loud and it bumpfires great. My tax stamp took 102 days door to door. The stock on this one was made by a fellow arfcom retro buddy. I made the handguards and a friend of mine cut down the barrel to 10".







I am curious as to how close to your real 607 stock the design of this one is.

Guts, I've sent you a PM. Also, I'm guessing that his original is slightly different from yours around the radiused corners on the lower 1/4 of the buttplate. I have one like yours ( I think) and it looks to me like the radii on yours are slightly smaller than on his. Not too easy to tell at the angle that the pics were taken, but I have searched and found several pics of originals (mostly pics from museums and old literature) and teh originals "look" to have a slightly larger radius around those two lower corners.

RCS, your reproduction stock came from where, TSI or back when it was WA-Tom? Also, have you ever had the buttplate off of the original?.........I was wondering if the part of the plate that is "inside" the stock was a rectangle or the same shape as the stock, to be a snug or close fit all the way around the perimeter? Does that ramble make sense???

The reproduction stock came from TSI early in 2009, it is a nice stock. You have no doubt done some research, as you know, there were two types of the XM607 stock. The original that I have posted the photos is the first type with the sling swivel closer to the buttplate while the TSI version is like the later XM607 stock. The first version was used on the CAR-15 smg as in the book "The Black Rifle" and there appear to be variations of the first type too - all interesting with few examples to study. Anyone have an estimate as to the production number of the XM607 stocks ? I do not know if that buttplate will come off without a problem, it has been on the stock for a long time and it was issued by the rack number on the stock.

yeah, if you haven't had the buttplate off I don't think I would try it. No reason to. I just thought that if you had had it off in the past you would know the shape of the "hidden half" of the buttplate. I know that my65pan's reproduction had a rectangle on the "front side" of the plate, and I'm not sure about TSI's or Tom's first repro's. I know that my65pan "fit" his plates to the stock being produced, as the stocks vary when shortened. I would imagine that Colt did not do that. I would think that they produced plates, cut stocks, and went with a slight mismatch if that is what they had. Although, your original is a much better fit than the reproduction that you have.
