    What K98 do you have?

Greetings! I have just started posting on here and notice they have threads for many WWII rifles. Since I have a few from all countries that were involved in WWII thought I would stop in and say hello.
Nice to know they have so many areas on one site. My favorite K98icon that I own is my 1943 bnz. What does everyone have out their? Mic

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. I have a few. Most special being a Simpson rework of a Gew98.

The next best K98kicon went to a fellow I know who just HAD to have it. Near $2000 of "have to have it". So off it went.

Probably the next favorite is a pre-WWII example of which I have no photos.

Trying to finish a Zf41 scope rebuild project one of these days.

In actual fact, I tend to gravitate towards the Gew98's. Wouldn't mind having a crisp small ring Chileanicon or Belgian 1889 rifle either.

    jmoore,

Well you would have been granted your wish this past weekend on the Chilean rifle. I attended what is bill is the largest gun show in the world (?) in Tulsa, Ok. and happen to have seen two or three but after awhile the place and prices just become a blur. I was looking for some special Items and found most but the prices were just crazy. Even with four of us looking for some items, we come up empty handed.
Probably the biggest items selling were ammo and handguns. Seen one dealer that selling at cost and had people in line two deep! I have on my list a Gew98 but looking still for another matching K98icon SS
but there are so many fakes I'll just wait till that special one out of the blue comes my way. I still believe in fairy tells as you can see. Mic

Got to be more good looking K98's out there?

There are, but the Mauser forum seems a little slow lately.

Favorite 98k I have is my Iraqi 98. Started life as a byf 41, reworked by the East Germans, and eventually sold to Iraq. I love the variety of property and inspection stamps all over it. Oh, and how cool is it that the matching serial numbers are 1066. (Teehee, my History Major is showing) GO HASTINGS!

In summary, it's an RC that I returned to as close to Germanicon usage as I could. Since the photos were taken, I've installed a sight hood and a repro sling. It's still one that is waiting to be fired. Bore looks nearly new.

Had several K98ks, just sold two F.B. RADOM with code 660 added. Had a 660 dating 1939, BCD 4, BNZ 41, etc. Oh and I had a Portuguese rifle with the matching S/N bayonet . Currently still have a fully matching 27 coded Erma plus a single claw scoped and a low turret scoped K98kicon. And yup, they're both genuine.

And if you allow to count these aswell, I also have two Austrian Army sniper rifles in 7.62x51 which were converted K98ks. They were named "SSG 98k" and introduced in 1958, used until the SSG69 came in 1969.

    1. 1938, 243 (Borsigwalde) code
    2. no year, blank receiver Luftamt stamped. has a Walther "359" eagle on the right of the receiver. don't know who put it together or when (though the barrel date is 1940, and they stopped with the Luftamt stamp in 1942 it still could have been assembled late war) never seen another one like it. it's a rare bit of 98k geneology.
    3. 1940 ax (Erma) code
    4. 1941 duv (Berlin Lubecker Maschinenfabrik) code
    5. 1943 bnz (Steyr Daimler Puch) code
    6. 1943 bnz, large font, single rune SS rifle
    7. 1944 dot (Brno) code

The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!
