    Before you do anything mechanical with any firearm, smithing wise, get a good clear copy of an exploded diagram of the make and model, otherwise you are just bubering about with no real idea of what you are doing.

    Many of the Ishapore 2A / 2A1 rifles have had a healthy dab or two of black paint applied at one time or another, including the rear sight.

    Any good aperture sight for a No. 1 Mk. III will fit the 2A / 2A1.

    A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered.
