A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Mc Gowen rifle barrel

I had Mc Gowen install a one inch no taper 24 inch barrel chambered for 308 Winchester in my Ruger Number 3 single shot rifle a number of years ago. Also had them return the 45-70 Ruger barrel that came with the number 3. First thing when I got the old 45-70 barrel back, I noticed the chamber had been pushed in on one area, seems they forgot to remove the extractor from the action before removing the old barrel, they also removed the rear sight from the old barrel too.

The new Mc Gowen barrel in 308 Win would not group very well at 100 yards after testing a number of known accurate handloads that I has used in my Rem 40x. I then decided to remove the Mc Gowen barrel and mill out the area around the fore-end hanger plus bed the fore-end in an effort to impove the performance, still no luck. I went on to other projects but should just look for a Ruger take-off barrel and install itAttachment 39590
