Besides the pics provided by Peter accompanying his article, see additional pics from Ricoim of the PVS-1 night scope mounted on his L42A1 rifle, plus zeroing instructions and pics of the infantry scope reticule by harlikwin. Apparently harlikwin collects night sights, so we're hoping to see a lot more detailed information and articles from him about these interesting collectibles, in the coming months.

The OG lens cap. MOST important bit of kit. There were several different types and this is the latest. Note the small pinhole in the centre. There was sufficient light allowed to pass into the tube to allow the sight to operate and allow it to be zeroed in daylight. But written around the edge in large letters were the words ‘DO NOT REMOVE IN DAYLIGHT’

hello there,

I have what I believe is an L1 weaponsight image intensified scope. I have read the articles above. Mine is slightly different to the ones in his images.

I am trying to find out if you/he knows anywhere where mine could be taken for fault finding as it doesnt seem to work!

any info, gratefully received.

Mine is dated 1973, differs only by virtue of having what I think is an ABC dimmer switch to the right instead of on top.

It's like having a car made in 1973.......... We'll need a bit more info that what you've given us.

There's only three reasons why it won't work. Electrical (the battery and switch down to the ...) or electronically (the electronic tube...) or the optical system that feeds from the front, through the tube, into the back. You need to check the electrics first. No electrics, no work!

I remember there was a sort of dorothy bag to carry it in (ours ended up with sugar in it, for some reason I now forget) instead of the suitcase. The AR-15 bracket was invariably missing. Don't use the lens tissues to have a tomtit with - you get poop over your hands.

The bag was called the softee bag and went inside the lid of the case. Strangely enough, there's a box and bag on 'that' site this very week. I never saw one with the AR15 bracket inside! But blow me down, there was on in a complete kit at Grizzly Bisley two weeks ago!
