Double Fire Problem

Need a little help with this double fire problem. I didn't have this problem until I gave it a good cleaning. Took everything apart and cleaned it except the bolt.
What happens is maybe every 4th or 5th shot I will get a double fire. Some times it fires just once but the trigger has I don't know somehow gotten past the reset position and I have to actually eject that case to shoot again. That ejected case has a dent in the primer. This is with S&B ammo.
Like I said I haven't take the bolt apart, doesn't look like fun. The firing pin is floating freely, obviously. I will say I believe the gas check is clogged and not working. Blew air up the barrel with other end plugged and couldn't get the gas check to move. Don't think this would have any impact, but who knows.

You need to look very closely at the trigger<->sear<->hammer interacting surfaces.

e.g.

If the rear of the sear is worn it, I imagine, could slip up over the nose of the trigger (instead of being blocked by it) and so would release the hammer. If the front of the sear (and/or the hammer notch) is worn then the hammer could slip off the sear.

And you are right, your gas PORT has little to do with your problem (and your test would only be meaningful if your compressor could supply air at 40000+ psi, which I am sure it cannot)

I've seen a couple where a botched trigger job made the works useless, but can't recall an instance where the carbine would double intermittantly. Could a mis-positioned spring achieve such results? Seems like they either work- or not!

Thanks for the input. Have watched that video in the past. I think I'll trigger assembly apart again and make sure I put everything back in it's proper place. Didn't have this problem until I took it apart for cleaning, and it needed it. Don't think it has been shot enough to have worn parts out.

I'll check back for some reloading help after I solve this problem. So far the reloads I have done using LRN have been all over the palce, say 15" groups at 50 yds. I have some 2400 coming that I think will work good with 110 LRN. My jacketed are a little better than factory.

You may be loading the pb bullets too hot. What powder and how much?

Little hint. Use a short pin ( as long as the trigger is wide ) to hold the trigger / sear spring / sear together as a pack . Lower the pack into the trigger housing and use the real pin to push the short pin out as it's installed . Helps if the short pin is brass ( easier to see and align ) . That way you know it's right. Keep it in a used Garand grease pot ( or like ) in your cleaning kit to keep track of.
