    Fn 49 find

Was garage sailing and found an FN 49 that's been hiding in a closet for decades. I don't know squat about them. This one is a CAI import with "7.92" under the import mark (8 MM Mauser?) on the barrel. No muzzle brake/flash hider but there's an oversized "ferrule" on the muzzle and no mag. Dust bunnies living in the bore. I know that they could have seen corrosive ammo run through it, so the rifling may be suspect. Didn't get all the data off it but it's just down the road from me. What else do I need to look out for? Value, fair to good condition? PAX
I took everybodies obsevations/input and picked it up as a "parts" rig at the least. Talked over the "potential" issues with pitted bore and possible missing parts with the owner, $250 in payments on a hand shake, and I brought it home. Gave the bore a quicky go over, wasn't as bad as I thought over all but will need to thoroughly disassemble and exaimine (that's not rust, it's crap out of the bore). I'm happy anytime I stumble across anything, let alone one of these jewls. I believe it to be a King Farouk (Crown) contract vs Century build (Eagle). How'd I do? Anybody got a complete mag?PAX

Hopefully it'll clean up and shoot well for you! Mags don't litter the planet, but the 8mm version will probably be the easiest to find.

Egyptian contract 8mm Mauser. Look under the wood line on the left side for either the original Arabic script serial number or the same number repeated for legal compliance.

I've got one. Century had/has piles of parts. Likely long gone. Try the Dealers Warehouse for parts/leads. The gas port likely wide open and it will eject brass 20-30 feet! You must dial back the gas setting. Nice shooters, with but only with non-corrosive ammo. Avoid milsurp ammo.
