Rcaf m17

Good evening:
I've run across a few of these C Broad arrow marked ones in the past, with the red paint strake on the forewood to differentiate between P14 and M17. They were apparently RCAF. However, I just was offered an M17 which is electropencilled with a C Broad and RCAF on the right hand side of the receiver, on the flat part next to the rearsight. Has anyone seen one marked like that before? No red paint, never had it..........

Yes, I've had them in hand. They were apparently issued to the RCAF in Germany icon

some time back. M1 icon

rifles too.

Thanks BAR. That would make sense, then. If they were issued post-war in Germany icon

, then there would have been no concerns about mixing them up with a P14, since there wouldn't have been any of those kicking around, so no need to pretty them up with paint...........

I have a question about my CF 1917 that maybe one of you can answer......

The butt is marked with two units markings (I think)...... one is "R H 172" which is lined out and the other is "TC 53 680."
I found that "TC" is Training Command but any guesses as to what unit " R H " is?

Not all M-17's in Canadian icon

service had the red paint. I have not seen any of the PCMR ones so marked. Also, a wartime photo of M-17 armed RCAF personnel at the Bella Bella flying boat station shows un-painted rifles.

Good point. I know some of those guys and they never mentioned it either.

My RCAF marked M1917 doesn't have RED paint (see pics in link provided earlier)..
