    Recently acquired SA/NFR

I just got this 6/45 SA/NFR. Its pretty enough, but when I took it to shoot it. It would not feed the new round in, then it ejected the clip after firing only 7 rounds. I have been trying to read the threads on this but there seem to be many possiblities. The Op rod spring is 19 5/8 long and after that I'm kinda lost. I will spend more time reading the threads, but here are some pics. We all like those.

If you buy one of Scott Duff's books on the M1icon, you won't have any more questions. It's an excellent source and you'll need it again... http://www.scott-duff.com/DuffBooks.htm

    The red cover.

BAR is right, Duff's book is the best!

    Change your clip latch spring.

Doh! That's a bummer, sorry to hear about it. I don't have any words of wisdom to offer, but I do hope that you get the kinks ironed out.

I'll figure it out. I do have 2 of Scott Duff's books, but I guess I need another. Looks like I should get both the M1icon Garand Complete Owners Guide and the Walter Kuleck book.

Help - problem with premature ejection!
common problem , esp with the import of clips out of spec or reparked too thick for the latch to grab.

OK. I only used two clips, that could be the problem. Clips were unmarked , unless marked on the inside. That's the 8 th round eject problem. I ordered a new op rod spring and a couple of latch springs from Orion 7. The problem should be fixed soon. Gonna have another one of Scott Duffs books soon too. Not giving up on the "Greatest battle implement ever devised" over a tiny problem like this.

The red cover one? With the history up to the end of WWII? I have that one. I didn't see a troubleshooting section in that one. OK I'll check it again. Thanks.

No trouble shooting in it, just the identification of parts. The trouble shooting can be found here in the sticky section of this forum...the green one might help too.

A pretty complete, and free, system for evaluating a new rifle can be found here:

    http://www.garandgear.com/inspecting-your-m1-garand

No doubt there are better descriptions, but this one is pretty good.
