Good day gentlemen,
I have a 1914 Colt M1911 which is 45 serial numbers into the stint of GHS. This one has been refinished in green parkerizing and has since become fairly pitted but has no arsenal re-build stamps. It has the following:
H P barrel with the stamps NOT legible when pistol is vertical.
As for the small parts the only marked piece is a S and G marked slide stop. No other Springfield or 1911a1 parts that I can tell.
It came with Keyes grips and a Colt .45 Auto magazine. I have replaced those (but still have them) with double diamond grips with 15 lines between diamonds and a lanyard loop magazine.
My question is did pistols get refinished to this extent at the unit level and not go to an arsenal thereby escaping the stamping? I know with 1903s the Marines didn't stamp their rifles after overhaul but does that also apply to 1911s? This isn't from a known USMC block but I'm wondering anyway.
Thanks,
