    No5 Mk1 replacement parts

Hi, So I have a No5 Mk1 that shoots great and is in overall good shape for me, (I don't need a "mint condition" rifle). My question is for some reason the rear sight was ground off so there is just the Peep sight part, not the 800yd half. Also the front sight ears/guards were ground off. My question is is it worth it to replace these parts and if so where would I find such a part?

    Cheers

Oh and thank you so much Louthepoo for the wood work so I could finally de-sportarize my No 4 Mk1.

    Jay

If you're not interested in a perfect factory example then you could just do what we used to do with the hundreds of No5's that came through our big Base workshops with broken foresight protectors. Usually caused by sliding along and over the floors of trucks or falling over. They bend and the crunchies get their pliers out and try to bend them back again. And guess what? Just clean off the area and mig weld a suitable shaped and size square section spring washer in place. This was a perfectll accept able repair for over 20 years. The only criteria was that both sides had to be done. Then bend to angle slightly outwards. Then send rifle through the phosphating plant.

The rear sights are not hard to find. Should be around $25. PM me if you are stuck and I will get one in the UKicon for you.

I think the std mk1 venier sites off a no4 mk1 or no4 mk2 would fit, tend to be very cheap, like $20 to $40US. If you want them with windage that model seems to go to $150.

    ebay is your friend.

Yes they fit but it's not right. The no5 sight is graduated to 800yds. The no4 sight is graduated to 1300yds.

Thanks for the info, yea I've found the 1300yd ones but not the 800 yd one. If anyone sees one please PM me the link.

Thanks Peter for the info about the foresight guard. Is it more of a hassle to change the whole muzzle/foresight guard with a new replacement part?

    Cheers

A LOT more hassle to fit new than just re-welding. But we weren't really interested in the aesthetics, just total serviceability and reliability.

Off thread a little bit....... But the ring, retaining rear handguards used to rust through at the bottom and the book stated that the flash eliminator should be removed to replace it. Obviously written by someone who hadn't done it many times. In practice, it was far easier to just unbreech, replace ring and breech up or better still, snip (do not cut with hacksaw as it leaves it too small diameter afterwards.....) new ring at bottom, bend to clear narrowest point of barrel and close up again. Braze ends back together.

EBAY,yes it is! I have been all over looking for parts for my No4 Mk1 build and can only find worn out junk at premium dollar. Ebay allows us to get the parts still in excellent condition with the right proofs in many cases never issued.Which reminds me,would anyone want to part with a No4 5 groove barrel.
I would love to see the warehouse of parts still in the packages coming out of the UKicon.
