Packing Garand En Blocs in a .30 Cal. Ammo Can.

I pack 296 rounds of ammo en bloc in my .30 cal. ammo cans. Here is how it fits. First and second rows are packed vertically on edge (like they are loaded in the rifle) with 11 en blocs each, packed in alternating directions. On top of those stack 3 rows of alternating direction en blocs horizontally (lying down). The first two rows contain 88 rounds each or 176 rounds. The top three rows contain 40 rounds each for a total of 120 rounds. 296 rounds all together with room for desiccant, etc.. You will need 37 en blocs per can. [Too tight for bandoliers with this much ammunition.]

Easier to load them in seven rows of 5 , alternating each clip. Gives you 35 clips.

I use Canadianicon C9 cans(M240 US) and I can get nearly 1000 rds in there. It's bigger than a .50 can though...I like 'em...

Yep , that's what they are . One of four bandoleers in four separate stacks , offering access to all four at once . Second one of four bandoleers stacked in two layers of 2 bandoleers each , offering only two at a time. I was taught to pack by ex-WW2 vets ( who pre-date the m9 can , but all my Garandicon ammo is in them ) . Thier way was to lay four pockets down and fold # 5 and 6 over in layer 2 . Two of the next bandoleer was laid in layer 2 and the remaining 4 in layer 3 . Do the last two the same way . Each bandoleer flipped from previous bandoleer's direction. Each strap was wrapped around it's bandoleer and laid flat across the top. This allowed access to only one bandoleer at a time and only one strap was offered up for grabs and it streached the length of the can. Thier way would lead to smoother removal , but the others would work nearly as well and better if you packed more than one type of ammo per can ( say a couple each of ball and AP or one each of ball , AP , tracer , and inc. ).
Might have to try some of these out.
