    International harvester m1

Hi, I was wondering if anybody knew anything about these international harvester garands. How do they compare with Springfields and hra's as far as value, quality, and availability? This one has a serial number 454xxxx, what year of manufacture would this be? Any suggestions on what would be a reasonable price for this. It seems to be mostly parts correct.
    -thanks

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. To answer your questions as asked : Could be, depending on condition and correctness, valued at about 2 to 3X that of a post war SA or a HRA, with a few exceptions. All three manufactures met government requirements but most will say that quality of SA and HRA was better. Availability - much harder to find than a post war SA or HRA but sometime next year CMPicon will offer some for sale. 454xxxx was likely assembled by about Apr. 1954. Most in this range seem to be found with LMR barrels dated between May and Aug. 1953. A big ticket item on a IHC is the correct stock, so if the stock is not correct for IHC expect to pay about another $ 500.00 or so. Check rifle very close to be sure it was not a demil that had the receiver welded back together or a former drill or ceremonial rifle that would also contain welds.
Can not say just what a reasonable price would be without seeing the rifle or at least good pictures of it. Look on G.B. and you will get an idea of asking and selling prices. At a minimum, a mixmaster, assuming the receiver has no welds and the barrel is correct, could sell for about $ 1200.00 or more on the internet. A correct IHC including stock, maybe $ 2000.00 or more. Never can tell on an auction like G.B.

Thank you. I just found out that it has a blue sky import mark on the barrel. Can anybody tell me anything about this importer and what this means for the rifle?

HERE is an extensive previous thread that will shed some light on it.
