Looks like it came from a BAR. And it looks like he's just holding onto the back end of the sling...
    Regards, Jim

Couple questions to demonstrate my ignorance of this weapon system. Is that some sort of hand grip clamped to the foreend? The cable ? that loops around his right thigh, is that the power cord? It's pretty long. I understand there were two battery packs, one carried like a rucksack and one hung on the belt. I do not see any over the should straps.

Yeah that is a foregrip on the fore end of this M2 or M3 carbine. Must have weighed alot. Just look at the infared illuminator on top for the gen1-ish scope. Wouldn't want to be carrying that if I was stuck in Kor-ee-or... Much prefer a BAR or a Bren.

The infrared kit could be field installed on any M1icon / M2 carbine by removing the rear sight and changing handguards while bolting on the kit.
RCEME , I am only aware of one battery set up for these , the backpack mounted one. In the OP , the cable looks to be just stuffed into a pocket to protect the ends and keep it off the ground .
There were some special stocks made for these units . They had three holes for the foregrip to bolt directly to the stock and didn't use the band clamp. They also had a cable bracket on the left side above the trigger group to add strength to the cable mounting.

Chris is right. This is a modified M1icon. The hand guard is the older two rivet type. They were heavy and I have never heard of a second battery being held on the belt. Only the one in the back pack.
