Potential 1903 SA Lend Lease Hump Job?
I know that I am getting in the habit of doing this, but I think this is a good learning experience for everyone to see.
USED Springfield Model 1903 .30/06 : Bolt Action Rifles at GunBroker.com
Here is the listing. I was looking through several books and the only mention of Lend Lease rifles that I can find where those manufactured by Remington. Where 1903 service rifles besides Remington send to Britain?
Also, the serial number falls around known NM, but the star on the barrel looks funky and the fact that the bolt has a modern engraving (not electropenciled and not polished) on it leads me to think that this thing is all sorts of wrong!
That would make the $3500 price tag all sorts of ridiculous.

I hope both Rick and JB take a look at this one. Not sure about anything on it.

This rifle was discussed a few months ago (and I think you can see how much luck the sellers has had getting rid of it!). The serial number on the bolt is phonier than a 3-dollar bill. The rifle is not necessarily a Lend Lease rifle. The markings you see on the FRSB and barrel are British export proof marks. The rifle could have been Lend Lease, but it could have come through the UK from a third country.
It is unfortunate the seller (or someone else) felt the need to mark up the bolt, as, if memory serves me, this was an original rifle.
The rifle is not listed on SRS as a NM or other "special" rifle. IIRC, this may have been a NM rifle restored to service use. The markings on the bolt were obviously installed with a laser device of some sort.
