A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. The description appears OK to me and not too flowery but the price is a big bunch of nettles!

This well known dealer has a lot of badly described items like the rare L4A1 which is a South African 7.62 conversion. This Enfield sniper has been for sale repeatedly for the last 4 years or so, at a lot less money. It may have appeared on the forum before, it certainly got pulled apart by one of the forums.

£7250 for a de-act. If you buy it it is only a 'wall-hanger' or at best strip it for parts, but £7250 for a scope and mount - I think not.

You could get a 'live' L42, or (almost) 2x No4T's for that price
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Its not even a decent looking or original wall hanger! The wood is indian and doesn't match, the nose cap looks Mk1 to me, the screws don't look right and whats with the safety catch? Have a look at his other stuff, equally amazing prices!

Here you go, the milling out on the scope bracket is where the Parker Hale markings were milled away.

A long time ago, I had an old sporterized 1898 Kragicon in 30-40. It had a Weaver side-scope mount that is almost a dead ringer for the one pictured on this rifle, albeit modifed to fit the SMLE. I like the machined away area on the left hand side. I seem to remember this is where it read weaver on the mount I had.

Yes, it's been around for a while. Apart from having a genuine scope it's not even close to a real one.....

Thankfully I'm not in the market for one. I realised a few years ago that my chances of spotting a fake were not good as I've never seen enough originals. How anyone will tell in 20,30 or 50 years time will be interesting. Thanks to Brit plumber for the link to the earlier ad and the better pictures at least I can learn something.

    A J P = A J Purdey ?

I'd like a look at that.
