    Thumbs down Windows 8

I think everyone involved in the development of Windows 8 should choke themselves.

This has to be the worst product ever from Microsoft, and that takes some doing.

Agreed. I had to buy a laptop and when I was looking, the Chrome Books had been pulled off the market because of battery fires.
I hear there is a $5.00 app you can buy that puts a "shell" on the craptacular screen that makes it mimic Win7, which IMHO isn't bad.
I've got to find that app.

I've heard that shell will be available with Win 8.1. Can't figure out how to tell what version I'm running.

Edit: Found it. I am on 8.1. Any ideas on how to get the shell as my default?

There’s a couple of excellent manuals and magazines available in the private Contributing Members and Advisory Panel Team Forum.

    Windows 8.1 For Dummies

The Ultimate Guide To Windows 8

Maybe they will be helpful ..

I simply wiped out the Win 8 and reloaded Win 7 from a disc. The program was fine, my computer hinge switch had died. Windows 8 was all but unworkable. I tried it for 2 weeks and canned it. They had nothing so they did the same as Vista, and ran with what they had. I think it's meant to try to make all operating systems resemble the Ipads and Iphones. Except you can't touch screen so it sucks...

Windows XP is the best and still is. Its funny how this topic is on a gun forum, using windows 7 and vista makes me want to shoot my computer with this rubbish running.

Have you noticed, everytime they get a good workable system, they start to stuff it up.
Windows 98 is a good example, stuffed up by 2000, XP cops a flogging from Vista, 7 and 8.
Now they are shutting down support for XP, why don't they just make us all buy new computers every year and be done with it.

That IS the intention. Windows 8 was an attempt to make all operating systems the same. Ipads, Iphones...so the guys in the design room are all young under 30 tekkies. They don't know different. They live that crap and think the world revolves around new stuff every year. They come from the generation of disposable stuff and not understanding building a life. Everything is day to day. They don't have anything that they've had for years...
    Regards, Jim

Don't panic. As always, Microsoft says that the next version will work.
