I know very little about WW1 helmets. However I did take a couple of hours to try and learn something.
1. It is an American helmet. Round rivets on the swivels. Plus other things.
2. Magnet sticks to rim but not shell. Maganese shell.
3. Has manufacturing code of ZC 305. Manufacturing codes are almost do not exist for American helments. Did find ZC 305 may stand for Columbia Enameling and Stamping Company
4. Can't read manufacture's stamp on inside lining.
I will not be cleaning it except for where I found the code. Owners initals were inside of "W.I." in red paint. Few more images:
Unreadible....
Posting a "1952" wagger stick I got earlier in the month..
That would be a swagger stick would it not?I still remember a few friendly swipes with one.
My helmet shown in the photos is a Civil Defense helmet or Air Raid Warden helmet, the WW1 military helmets had the donut in the centerAttachment 55115Attachment 55116
